Henry Candy says Limato will only run in Saturday’s British Champion Sprint if the ground suites him.
The four-year-old will head to Ascot looking to continue his superb form, which has seen him claim Group 1 success in both the July Cup and Prix de la Foret.
Limato’s Foret success a fortnight ago had led to talk of a trip to the Breeders’ Cup but it looks like an outing on Champions Day will be next on the agenda.
Stablemate and Jubilee Stakes winner Twilight Son, Quiet Reflection and Mecca’s Angel are among those also set to be in contention but Candy says he could leave his decision late, as he wants to ensure the ground at Ascot suites his charge.
“We’ll have to hang on as long as we can with Limato,” he said. “If the ground stays good he’ll run in which case they’ll both run, but there is quite a bit of rain forecast Friday and if it turns soft he won’t run.
“He was a tiny horse at two and not much better at three but his form was fantastic. He’s grown and developed and he’s a much bigger horse now.
“Now he does seem to take his races much better. If you’d said to me earlier in the year he could run twice in two weeks I’d say you were mad but he’s a completely different horse now and it does seem to be a possibility.”
