Connections of Clondaw Warrior are targeting a run in November’s Melbourne Cup.
The nine-year-old won July‘s Galway Hurdle and was then sent to America where he finished second in the American St Leger Stakes.
A potential run in Melbourne is now the target, but he will need to move up in the ratings if he is to make the cut for the Flemington showpiece.
However, with a run in either the Doncaster Cup or the Irish St Leger on the cards in the coming weeks, Patrick Mullins, son of trainer Willie, believes a trip to Australia may well be a possibility.
“He is a magic horse and has come back from America looking fantastic,” he said. “For a horse that ran in Galway, then went to America to have a race, you wouldn’t know it to look at him as he has kept his condition fantastically.
“He is entered in the Melbourne Cup. He will probably run in either the Doncaster Cup or Irish St Leger.
“If he could run well in either of those we would be very keen to send him to Melbourne.”
