It’s no coincidence to see the form of the William Haggas yard peaking in the high summer; the yard enjoying an excellent double on Saturday and Goodwood and likely to score with Glitter Girl (2.15) in the Catterick opener under Ben Curtis. The well-bred filly confirmed the debut promise by landing a Thirsk maiden in impressive fashion 11 days ago and should be able to follow-up with further improvement likely. Richard Fahey’s debutant Golconda Prince looks the most obvious danger and would warrant a second look should the market speak in the colt’s favour.
There’s an excellent renewal of the feature handicap over a mile and three quarters where David O’Meara’s in-form Ingleby Hollow (3.45) gets the nod to score for the third time this term. The son of Beat Hollow landed a touch last month at Ayr and followed-up eight days later under a penalty when stepped up in trip to two miles at Thirsk. He was unfortunate to bump into one when bidding to complete the hat-trick last week at Redcar and remains well-handicapped to go in again under apprentice jockey Josh Doyle, who remains excellent value for his 5lb claim.
It was another tremendous week in darts for BetVictor World Matchplay Champion Michael Van Gerwen, following-up his recent Blackpool victory with further success in Rotterdam over the weekend, and his namesake Van Gerwen (4.15) can hopefully do likewise in the 6f Handicap. Les Eyre’s gelding won well earlier in the season at Thirsk and looks well drawn to go in again from a revised 6lb higher mark. He drops back down to 0-75 company and can hopefully give weight and a beating to his eight rivals under regular partner David Allan.
Sir Mark Prescott’s stoutly-bred Monjeni (4.45) remains a maiden after six starts but put in a career best to finish second last time out at Lingfield and should be good enough to score from just a 2lb higher mark. The selection has improved with every run thus far and gets a healthy 11lb from his elders on the favourable weight-for-age scale. He looks a typical Sir Mark improver is a confident selection to score for favourite backers under Luke Morris.
There has been a noticeable upturn in fortunes at the Ralph Beckett yard, with the Newmarket handler enjoying nine winners in the last fortnight, and poised with Hereawi (5.00) this afternoon at Salisbury. The filly couldn’t be any better bred for the job, by Dubawi out of Oaks winner Look Here, and looks to be slowly but surely getting there with experience. She won impressively last time out under Graham Lee at Chester and looks well-treated to go in again from a 6lb higher mark under Pat Dobbs.
Beckett can claim an across-the-card double with Qatar Racing‘s well-bred filly Singing Sands (5.35) this evening at Nottingham. The daughter of Harbour Watch was unfortunate to bump into last time out on the all-weather at Kempton and, with the winner franking that form subsequently, can shed the maiden tag at the third time of asking under regular partner Oisin Murphy.
Balance (7.35) was remarkably weak in the market prior to making her seasonal debut last month at Ayr and should strip fitter to bounce back in the 6f Handicap. Richard Fahey’s well-related filly made a winning debut last term at Haydock and looked in need of the run when shaping with promise in last month’s return. Adam McNamara takes off a useful 5lb and she looks well-treated from an unrevised mark of 73.
