Dry ground the key for Zonderland

Zonderland’s have confirmed that they will not contemplate him until there is drier ground.

The -trained colt was set to feature in the St James’s Palace Stakes at , but it was decided late on to withdraw him because of soft ground.

Zonderland had bounced back from a sixth-placed finish in the Qipco with a victory at in the Heron Stakes before looking to .

And, despite the disappointment of him not racing in the Group One contest, Chris Richardson, chief executive for owners Cheveley Park Stud, insisted he will be champing at the bit once conditions are more suitable.

He said: “It was very frustrating he had to miss Ascot, but they had so much rain and he wants it top of the ground.

“He is ready to run and he would have run had the ground not changed. It is especially frustrating as Clive Cox’s are performing so well.

“We are just having to tread water at the moment and wait until we get some decent ground.

“He is only three and we can be patient with him as we know the family improves with age.”
