French Oaks glory for La Cressonniere

La Cressonniere made it a Classics double with victory in Sunday’s French at Chantilly.

In what was an extremely rough renewal of the Prix de Diane, Jean-Claude Rouget’s filly went off the favourite as she looked to back up her Poule d’Essai des Pouliches triumph in May.

Jockey Cristian Demuro bided his time, staying near the back of the pack for most of the race before making his move in the final furlong and striding home – you can win in similar style with these Ladbrokes promotions.

Left Hand took second, while Volta came home third to complete an all French podium, with sole British entry Swiss Range fading in the final stages.

Highlands Queen was eventually placed last, after being deemed the guilty party by the stewards when clipping heels with Armande, a melee which La Cressonniere managed to avoid.

The victory continued the winner’s unbeaten start to her career and having picked up her second triumph, Rouget was understandably delighted.

Her trainer said: “She can do it all. It is an absolute dream because she is just so good.”
