Frankie Dettori is determined to ride as many winners as possible at Royal Ascot, with Magical Memory his “best chance”.
The Italian ace holds the record among current jockeys for most wins at the Berkshire venue and has entered the winner’s circle 52 times in his stellar career.
He has won top races all around the world and continues to be a globetrotting rider despite his advancing years.
The 45-year-old admits that he no longer has the desire to fly the length and breadth of the UK to be top jockey but still wants to make a splash at his favourite meeting.
“Royal Ascot is the biggest week of my year. I travel all over the world, but Ascot is still at the top of the pile and the Royal meeting is the pinnacle,” he said.
“I said at the start of the season that I’d be making the Royal meeting one of my key targets this year. I’m not going all over the country again in a bid to be champion jockey, but when it comes to Royal Ascot week I am going all out to be top jockey.”
And the three-time champion jockey believes that he has as good a chance as any on board Charlie Hills‘ charge in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes on Saturday.
“My best chance of the week could be with Magical Memory on Saturday,” he added. “Charlie loves this sprinter and I do too. Charlie has a great ability with his sprinters and I don’t see a rival in the race that I’d rather be on.”
