Appleby lifts lid on Skiffle flop

Skiffle’s disappointing display in the Investec was down to the soft conditions and inexperience, according to Charlie Appleby.

The daughter of Dubawi had been sent off as second favourite for last ‘s fillies’ having previously won a Listed event at .

However, Skiffle failed to trouble the front-runners and had to settle for a fifth-placed finish, well behind ‘s winning filly Minding.

Appleby has since spoken out to try and explain the poor show and said: “Basically, the filly showed her inexperience round there.

“William’s (Buick) first reaction was the ground as it was something she had never incurred before. The pace of the race was very stop-start and you can see that by the time of the race.

“That was her third run in four weeks. She has come out of the race fine, but we will now give her a break and regroup late , early August to see where we are.

“She has done nothing wrong this season. We might just run her once more this season and that might be her then done. She will be a filly that is better as a four-year-old when she has strengthened up.”
