The St Leger has been identified as the next Classic race which Across The Stars will be pitched into after his poor Epsom Derby show.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained three-year-old was fancied going into the weekend’s race, but had to settle down the field in 10th position.
Connections were believed to be looking at the September 10 Group One contest at Doncaster for Across The Stars’ next outing.
And, after analysing the performance at Epsom, Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail, appears to be leaning towards a run out at that St Leger meeting.
He told reporters: “He was probably not quite up to it on Saturday.
“He travelled well in the race, but Kieren Fallon said he didn’t come down the hill that well. Although he made up a little bit of ground in the straight, he didn’t act on the track and he was probably still a little bit immature for a race like that.
“He took the race remarkably well. He ate up well and seems pretty relaxed.
“I think he is still a potentially useful horse. I think we will go in the direction of the Leger as he is probably more a Leger horse.”
