Foley realises 1,000 Guineas dream

Jockey Shane Foley said it was ‘a dream come true’ after he won the Tattersalls 1,000 Irish Guineas with Jet Setting on Sunday.

The filly, snapped up for just £12,000 when bought from ‘s yard at the end of last season, disappointed in the other version of the 1,000 Guineas at earlier this month when finishing down in ninth behind winner Minding.

However again gambled by agreeing to supplement her into the version and it paid off dramatically as Foley struck for home some way out and managed to hold off the threat of Minding to win by a head, while Now Or Never was 10 lengths back in third.

Speaking afterwards Foley was delighted with the victory, which denied fellow jockey and the trained Minding a double.

“It’s a dream come true,” he said. “She ran a blinder at Newmarket. The ground was way too firm for her there but I’ve been doing a rain dance all week and I’m glad it came.

“She’s just so tough and genuine. The track didn’t suit her at Newmarket, but the Curragh suited her every strength today – soft ground, a stiff mile, perfect.”

Trainer Adrian Keatley confirmed Jet Setting does hold an entry to the Coronation Stakes at , but he will assess conditions in Berkshire before making a firm commitment.
