Connections are refusing to rule out the possibility of Galileo Gold running in the Investec Derby next month.
It was thought that Hugo Palmer‘s charge did not have the make-up to stay the mile and a half of the Epsom showpiece but nothing has been set in stone.
Having claimed the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes, the son of Paco Boy will next be seen in the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Saturday week.
The three-year-old will be kept in the premier Classic at the next forfeit stage and Harry Herbert, racing advisor for the owners, Al Shaqab Racing, insists the Derby is still an option.
“We just want to leave all options open because you never know,” he said. “If he happens to go to Ireland and win impressively, who knows?
“Just to shut the door completely is not something Sheikh Joaan (of Al Shaqab) wants to do and that’s absolutely fine.
“I’m not saying he’s going to run in the Derby. That’s not going to happen unless lots of pieces of the jigsaw fall into place and even then he may not run.
“It’s purely keeping everything open which is perfectly sensible.”
