Ruby Walsh says he will not make an early comeback from injury for Saturday’s meeting at Sandown.
Walsh, who is a 10-time Irish National Hunt champion jockey, suffered a hairline fracture to his wrist in a fall from Blood Cotil at Aintree on April 8.
The 36-year-old, who was subsequently ruled out of the Grand National for the fourth time since 2010, has been making good progress in his recovery and there were hopes of an early return this Saturday.
However, Walsh has revealed he will not be competing this weekend but could make a return to competitive action on Tuesday.
“I don’t go back to see the doctor until Saturday,” he said. “I have had one target since Aintree and that is Punchestown, much and all as I’d love to be in Sandown.
“I’m an optimist, but my wrist feels good, so I’m hopeful that I will be okay for Tuesday. That would do me. They can’t all run at Sandown, so there will still be plenty good horses to look forward to next week.”
