Connections are upbeat about Massaat’s chances in the Qipco 2000 Guineas on Saturday week after his workout at Newmarket.
The three-year-old was last seen finishing second behind Air Force Blue in the Group 1 Dubai Dewhurst Stakes on October 10 and will reappear in the year’s first Classic on April 30.
The son of Teofilo enjoyed a racecourse gallop at Newmarket’s Craven meeting under the watchful eye of trainer Owen Burrows, who has just started working for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
Massaat warmed up for the Guineas with an outing on the Rowley Mile course and will be back at headquarters in 11 days‘ time to contest the showpiece event.
And Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Maktoum, said: “Owen was happy with him after the gallop and he’s lost a bit of weight since.
“We’ve 10 days now before the Guineas and if it stayed dry it would help him. If it does he’ll work on Friday and it’s all systems go.”
