Definitely Red won’t be getting a run out before the Cheltenham Festival, trainer Brian Ellison has confirmed.
The RSA Chase and the National Hunt Chase are options for the novice, who made a winning debut over fences at Catterick on New Year’s Day before impressing with a second place finish at Wawrick last Saturday.
Ellison is yet to decide which Festival race the seven-year-old will contest at this stage, with the ground crucial in his decision.
“He’s great. I was over the moon with him. I think we got beat by a very good horse [Black Hercules at Warwick],” Ellison is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“If he’s odds-on in an easy race like he was at Catterick, he will always make it look hard. It suits him being in a better race where you have to get a stronger pace.
“It’s Cheltenham next, I hope. If the ground was fast he wouldn’t go.
“If he does go there it will be the RSA or the four-miler, depending on the ground.
“If it was very soft he’d probably go for the shorter race.”
