Connections ‘couldn’t be happier’ with Bigmartre ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock.
The five-year-old was last seen winning Haydock’s EBF Stallions 188Bet ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle on December 30 but will face much stiffer competition this weekend.
The event is registered as the Rossington Main, with £30,000 in prize money attracting a solid field, including the progressive La Prezien.
But trainer Harry Whittington is confident that his charge has what it takes in the Grade Two event, although it remains to be seen who will be on board.
“Bigmartre is in a seriously good place at the moment, I couldn’t be any happier with him,” he said. “He’s a course and distance winner and will absolutely love the ground. Bring it on.
“When we got to Haydock the last day, we were told the eventual second (Vintage Clouds) was seriously smart and we wouldn’t beat it.
“Hopefully Gavin Sheehan will be able to ride him but if not, Nico De Boinville will step in.”
