National Hunt cards at Wetherby and Thurles across the Irish Sea have fallen victim to the elements with both cards abandoned due to a waterlogged track. Doncaster has been given the green light but it promises to be testing on Town Moor and the ground officially described as heavy and soft in places.
There’s all-weather action from Lingfield and Wolverhampton and Charlie Appleby’s Mondial (4.15) a confident selection to land the opening 6f Maiden under Adam Kirby at the latter. The well-bred daughter of Shamardal built on the promise shown on debut when chasing home a well-backed favourite over course and distance and with further improvement likely can score under Martin Lane.
Mick Easterby’s Hoofalong (6.15) was similarly unfortunate to bump into one last time out when second last month at Chelmsford but is well-drawn to go one better and can hopefully make all under Phillip Makin in the feature 5f Handicap. The selection has been a revelation since bouncing back with an excellent second at Pontefract in October, following-up with form figures of 212 thereafter over 6f on the all-weather, and looks to boast the pace to prove even better now dropping back down to the minimum trip.
Adam Kirby rode the perfect race aboard Goodwood Moonlight last week at Chelmsford when dictating matter to score aboard the Ian Williams trained gelding by four lengths. He looks vulnerable under Sean Levey with both a 6lb penalty and a less than ideal draw in stall ten and is overlooked instead for Steph Hollinshead’s Cahar Fad (6.45) under regular partner Adam Beschizza. The selection specialises over today’s nine and a half furlongs trip and could prove a big price if taking to the polytrack surface.
