Gold Cup winner Coneygree will not run in Saturday’s Hennessy Gold Cup as he “wasn’t himself” in Tuesday‘s run out.
The eight-year-old’s participation in the Newbury showpiece looked in doubt after he spread a plate but news coming out of the camp suggested that the son of Karinga Bay would be in the line up.
However, trainer Mark Bradstock and his wife, Sara, were not satisfied enough with his performance in a schooling session to give him the all clear to race this weekend.
“I’m afraid we’re not running. He just didn’t school well enough. He overreached which he’s never done before which suggests he’s not comfortable,” said Sara Bradstock.
“He didn’t jump badly but for him, it wasn’t him. We’ve always said if there was any residual pain left we weren’t going to take a risk. He definitely wasn’t himself.”
