Nicky Henderson has hinted that Vaniteux could return to Kempton and compete in the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase this December.
The six-year-old made his debut over fences on Monday at Sunbury-on-Thames and the brown gelding cruised to a 19-length victory over Qewy in second.
It was a superb performance from the Henderson-trained charge, who did take a slight knock at the last, and Vaniteux has now been chopped in price for the Racing Post Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
The next outing could be back at Kempton over the festive period but the Lambourn trainer admits the conditions will need to be suitable if an appearance is going to be made.
He said: “Something like the Wayward Lad back here over Christmas could be his next race as the ground is always as good as anywhere for the time of year.”
Jockey Nico de Boinville, who was on-board Vaniteux for the recent win, is looking forward to forming a successful partnership.
“He’s a nice prospect and we’ve been looking forward to him this season,” he said. “He’s schooled well and will definitely come on for that – it was a good start.”
