Gold Cup winner and unbeaten steeple-chaser Coneygree has been declared ‘touch and go’ for Newbury‘s Hennessy Gold Cup at the end of the month.
At the head of weights as well as the market, the former favourite for the Newbury showpiece has reportedly spread a plate on his left hind foot this week. Trainer Mark Bradstock is waiting to see if his condition improves during the week before committing to the Hennessy.
“We need to get a shoe on him by Thursday,” Bradstock revealed, “we need to gallop him if he’s to be properly ready for Newbury.
“He’ll run if we can get him ready in time but we won’t be rushed in his preparation and we’ll know a lot more by the end of the week.”
Amidst the doubts over the participation of Coneygree, Saphir Du Rheu has been installed as the new favourite.
