Ante-post favourite for the November Handicap at Doncaster, Argus, has been declared a non-runner by trainer Ralph Beckett.
The Hampshire handler tweeted this morning: “Argus coughed at exercise this morning. He was scoped afters, and the tracheal wash was dirty. He is a non runner in Nov. Hcap”
The Qatar Racing colt was an impressive course and distance winner last month under Andrea Atzeni, prevailing after meeting trouble in running. Argus was a general 6/1 chance for a second successive victory on Town Moor.
Previously labelled a “nice prospect” by Beckett, Argus is one to keep onside when the flat season resumes in March.
His withdrawal leaves Penhill a clear 6/1 favourite with Seamour next best at 8/1.
