Covert Love and Goldream secured Group 1 glory for British raiders at Longchamp as Ballydoyle struck for Ireland.
Hugo Palmer‘s Covert Love clinched her second Group 1 victory of the season with a game performance in the Prix de l’Opera, while Goldream was also being successful at the highest level for the second time this year when landing the Prix de l’Abbaye.
Pat Smullen repeated the front-running tactics he had adopted in the Irish Oaks as Covert Love held off the persistent challenge of Jazzi Top in the Prix de l’Opera.
Covert Love was bustled to the front upon leaving the stalls by Smullen, but John Gosden’s Jazzi Top and stablemate Star Of Seville were always in close attendance.
Smullen kicked Covert Love for home on the turn into the straight, but the move was covered by Frankie Dettori, who appeared to be travelling better on Jazzi Top.
However, Jazzi Top could never get past the leader and Covert Love stuck on in spirited fashion to win by a head as last year’s winner We Are flashed home from last place to take third.
Goldream, meanwhile, followed up his win in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot by thwarting Rangali in the Abbaye.
Rangali had finished second in the race behind Move In Time last year and again had to settle for the runners-up position after briefly hitting the front.
Robert Cowell’s Goldream, though, battled back in style under Martin Harley to win going away, with the favourite Muthmir third and 2014 winner Move In Time in fourth.
The well-named Ballydoyle gained the first Group 1 win of her career when taking the Prix Marcel Boussac for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien.
Trained at Ballydoyle, the filly hit the front inside the final two furlongs and kept on finding enough for Moore to deny fellow Irish raider Turret Rocks.
