Monday’s racing preview of the cards at Ayr, Cartmel and Beverley

There is a decent card from this afternoon and I am going to give Piccadilly Jim (4.10) another chance having finished runner up over today’s extended nine furlong trip at Carlisle last time when jockey  Jack Garrity might have hit the front too soon.

Connections persevere at the trip this afternoon so they must feel the distance is not an issue and I expect the talented apprentice will be under instructions to play Richard Fahey’s progressive grey as late as possible.

At there is a fascinating Beginners’ Chase and winning point-to-pointer Clues And Arrows (3.55) can make a winning chase debut on a course that clearly suits for trainer John Wade. The gelding won three times for Jonjo O’Neill last year and is entitled to come on for his hurdles run at last time on his first start for his new yard.

There is a valuable handicap chase and Peckhamecho is a fascinating contender returning from a break for Sophie Leech but he is likely to need further and the vote goes to Claragh Native (4.55) despite the fact that he has never won off a mark this high. His second to Kings Grey at Aintree last time was, arguably, a career best despite the fact that the winner failed to frank the form at last weekend.

At Ataman will appreciate a return to 10f having looked a non-stayer over 12f at last time but Yours Truly (6.50) is stepping up in trip having shown ability at on debut when third (of four) not beaten too far.

Biotic (7.20) is in good heart at present and is taken to land the ten furlong handicap for Rod Milman. The selection has shown in recent starts that he gets this trip which should open a few more avenues for the 4-year-old.

In the fillies’ handicap Perestroika (8.20) should have the race run to suit and looked to improve again for the step up to 12f when a close third at last time. Owned and trained by Henry Candy the filly gets the nod with Ralph Beckett’s lightly-raced Pensionnat considered the biggest danger.

At Beverley the talented White Bullet (6.10) cannot be opposed in the juvenile maiden over 5f given her second last time in a listed contest. She is held in some regard by Kevin Ryan and this looks the perfect stone to next month’s Lowther at .

Impressive Victory (8.40) is surely better than she showed at Beverley last time and is given a last chance to confirm the promise she showed on the all-weather as a juvenile. She has been very well backed in both starts on turf and has obviously been showing more at home than she has on turfso far this term.
