The best of the British action takes place this evening and Epsom host one of their popular evening cards. Bizzario has been a big disappointment this term but it might be too early to give up on the Mark Johnston trained 3-year-old who is bred to be better than his current mark.
The vote goes to recent course winner Arantes (6.45) who won an apprentice race over 10 furlongs here last week and goes unpenalised for that success. The 4-year-old gets today’s additional couple of furlongs, clearly gets on well with apprentice Daniel Cremin and can follow up.
Eastern Dragon (8.20) had hinted at a return to form prior to finishing a close third at Chepstow last week and he is taken to get back to winning ways for Michael Scudamore and Willie Twiston-Davies. Liberty Jack is only 3lbs higher than when scoring over C&D and that could be lenient given he was well on top at the end and this 7f trip clearly suits.
At Doncaster I think Academy House (8.10) will get further in time but he is held in some regard by the Michael Bell team and can go close in a hot little conditions event. The recent Windsor winner Human Nature is another colt of potential but the selection still holds an entry in next month’s Lowther and can follow up last month’s Leicester success.
At Leopardstown this evening Carla Bianca (8.00) drops back in tip three furlongs having been pipped at Cork last time in a Group 3 over 12f for Dermot Wels. The filly is not short of pace and should have the race run to suit as there are a couple of others who like to race prominently.
At Killarney this afternoon Sizing Sahara should be spot on following a spin on the flat at Limerick. He finished third in the corresponding race 12 months ago on his sole start over fences but preference is for his stablemate Viconte Du Noyer who made a shocking error at halfway at Tramore back in May when finishing third to Avant Tout in a similar contest.
The grey has yet to really fulfil his potential but form such as his close third to Gilgamboa at Navan back in November highlight his ability and granted a free round he must go close.
At Leicester the filly Martini Time (2.20) can follow up last month’s Hamilton success over an additional furlong. The selection stayed on well over that stiff six to suggest today’s step up in trip will suit and she has most to fear from Godolphin’s Roaring Forties who has improved with each start and should appreciate today’s 7f trip.
I am going to give Ya Latif (3.55) another chance in the fillies’ handicap over 7f having been a very expensive flop at Windsor over the extended mile last time. She was backed as if her current mark of 75 is not the limit of her ability and she returns to the trip of her Salisbury victory on her penultimate start.
