John Gosden admits he is feeling confident about Mr Singh’s chances heading into Thursday‘s Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket.
The three-year-old managed second behind Balios last time out in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot and is now being primed for a run in the St Leger.
Thursday’s race is widely seen as a trial for the Doncaster Classic, a race which Gosden has won four times, most recently in 2012 with Masked Marvel.
He has also trained three of the last four victors of the Bahrain trophy and has high hopes for Mr Singh heading into the Group Three affair at Newmarket.
The Clarehaven handler admits he is feeling confident about the High Chaparral colt’s chances, whom he concedes is his current favourite for Doncaster glory in September.
“This is a race I really like. If he runs well there we will put him away for the St Leger, which is what we did with Masked Marvel,” he said.
“He is still a growing horse and he ran well in the King Edward VII. He does not have to win the race but if he finishes in the first three, he would be freshened up for the St Leger.
“At this stage he would be my primary St Leger hope.”
