Aidan O’Brien led the tributes to Ryan Moore after the jockey equalled the modern day record of eight winners at Royal Ascot.
Moore has the final two days of the meeting in which to better the efforts of Lester Piggott and Pat Eddery and, given his form over the first three days, it looks a racing certainty the 31-year-old will set a new benchmark.
Moore helped himself to a 785/1 treble on day three, taking his tally for the week to eight in the process.
The opening Jersey Stakes went to O’Brien’s Waterloo Bridge after Moore stalked the duelling market leaders King Of Rooks and Log Out Island before surging clear close home.
He was again in the right place at the right time on David Wachman’s Curvy to thwart even-money favourite Pleascach in the Ribblesdale Stakes and counted himself an unfortunate runner-up having been short of room when finishing second on Kingfisher in the Gold Cup.
He was not to be denied a share of the record for long however, guiding the Ballydoyle runner War Envoy home for a neck success in the Britannia Stakes.
It has been a remarkable week for Moore and O’Brien was quick to pay tribute to his uncanny ability in the saddle following the win for War Envoy.
“What can I say about Ryan? He’s a marvellous jockey, probably the greatest jockey I’ve ever seen,” the trainer said.
“He’s a total professional and fully committed. He has a great feel about a horse and a great feel about a race.
“We’ve worked with him very closely for the last three years and we’re privileged he’s riding for us.”
The leading duo will hope for more success on Friday with Ol’ Man River in the King Edwards VII Stakes and Found in the feature Coronation Stakes holding strong chances.
