Zawraq out of Derby

Racing manager for owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, Angus Gold, has confirmed Zawraq will miss Saturday’s Derby at Epsom.

Having won his two starts to date, Dermot Weld’s colt was expected to do well in the highly-anticipated race this weekend.

However, Zawraq suffered an injury setback in his preparations for the Derby earlier this week and will have to miss the feature race.

Gold said: “Hopefully it’s nothing too serious, but we can’t think about future plans until we get to the bottom of what is troubling him.”

The runners for the Derby are Giovanni Canaletto, Hans Holbein, Kilimanjaro, Success Days, Carbon Dating, Golden Horn, Jack Hobbs, Elm Park, Rogue Runner, Epicuris, Moheet and Storm The Stars.
