Stable report from Harper Lodge

by Ray Harrison

2015 may well see the start of a new and exciting dawn for team “Ivory” at their stables in Radlett, Hertfordshire.

Trainer, is more than happy with the progress of gallops performance of his experienced string this current season.

New arrivals are fast coming to hand under his tutelage. The two year Old's that have recently arrived from the Breeze up sales, look outstanding, which has delighted Dean immensely.

Harper Lodge stables, close to the M25 North London, is ideally situated for all the southern racetracks. Although the team are not afraid to venture north for a tilt at a large prize with any progressive race horse.

stableThe stables have improved considerably with the addition of a new top yard complex, which includes, state of the art equine facilities. A vast difference from the time I had my runners there, with Dean's father Ken.

Which brings back happy memories of when I supplied my Oakley Supreme four horsebox, which was the backup transport for the yard. I remember to this day, a trip to Pontefract with two nice 3 year old fillies for Mr Ivory Sr, in those days up to Yorkshire, the runners would go the day before so me and travelling lads stayed in The Malt Shovel located downtown, on that night the then landlord had a private box at the course. The night went well until one of the lads mentioned the yard may well have two winners. I overheard this conversation and all I had to say was “I hope that's a fact”, if not my box will be the fastest out of the county the next day, it turned out a good result as both sprinters won. Master sprinter trainer, Ken, performed wonders with such has Dawn's Delight and Go Bananas. Dean looks sure to follow in his father's footsteps.

Handpicked future runners from the yard to look out for, are as follows:

a horseTropics

Having run so well last season we are hoping he can go one better this year, After finishing  second in the and QIPCO Champion Sprint Tropics spent the in Dubai, a small set back stopped him from running. The time spent out there was not a total disappointment as both the sun and the swimming has meant he has wintered very well and come back bigger and stronger. We have big hopes for Tropics this year with are main aims are the July Cup and the Haydock Sprint which I would really like to win with the horse. He has been very lightly raced and my big ambition is to win a with him.

Lancelot Du Lac

This could be Lancelot's year as he has come back from Dubai looking great.  Lancelot's first run in Dubai showed real promise finishing second to although. After running over 5f in Dubai we are planning on running him over both 5f and 6f this year with entries in both the Kings Stand and Diamond Jubilee to make best use of his speed.

Sirius Prospect

Sirius did not get on with the dirt over in Dubai but we are thinking of running him over 1mile. He ran well at Doncaster in his first race back from Dubai finishing third to the smart Tullus. He has been a stable star for many years and we are hoping for a great season with him. A very versatile horse who runs well at on the all-weather where he broke the track record.

Varsovian

This horse just keeps getting better and better , it's taken a lot of hard work from the team to get right and it's been paying off with six wins at 3 different tracks so far, with many more to come we hope.  He's been turned out since his last win in early April. He's out with an unraced 4 year old by Shamardal which we have big hopes for,  the pair are looking fantastic and have been putting a smile on my face every  time I drive by them to the yard, I am looking forward to getting them back after their summer holidays. We expect Varsovian to return in the autumn on the all-weather. You are tempted to keep running a horse when they are in such good form but I have always felt horses need time for themselves and you need to keep putting a little more back.

Rosie's Premiere

Showed a lot of promise for us last year winning at Windsor and again at Haydock and finished the Season with a great run finishing 3rd in a listed race. She isn't the biggest but a truly gutsy filly who can only get stronger and improve with time. I am sure she will be very exciting as the year unfolds.

SONY DSC

We are hoping for a very good year and have plenty of young horses to look forward to.

The 2 year olds are really starting to come together. We have a really nice Invincible Spirit colt which has come in from the Craven Breeze ups as well as a lovely Galileo filly and Acclamation colt, they all look the real deal.
