Thursday’s racing at Hamilton, Kempton and Ffos Las

Richard Fahey’s filly Cotton Camera (2.00) can land the opener under Tony Hamilton; the daughter of freshman sire Lilbourne Lad built on her promising debut at when finishing an excellent third last time out at and remains open to further improvement.

The Fahey yard can double-up with Euxton (3.00) in the Maiden over an extended six furlongs. The selection, much like stablemate Cotton Camera, benefitted from the experience gained on debut at Ripon when finishing second on her next start at Newcastle. The well-bred filly was caught for toe when staying on strongly over the minimum trip last time out and should be able to get her head in front stepped up to 6f for the first time.

Alan Swinbank’s string remain in excellent fettle and Eutropius (4.00) is a confident selection to follow-up his last time out success under regular partner Ben Curtis. The gelding arrives in excellent form having won at Redcar last time. The selection did us a favour that day and is taken to defy a 6lb penalty.

There’s excellent twilight action from where John Gosden’s Nigel (6.10) is another stoutly-bred colt from the excellent Normandie Stud. The son of New Approach has finished third at last time and form has worked out well with the winner subsequently franking the form.

The dam was beaten three lengths by subsequent English and Irish Oaks heroine Snow Fairy in the Height of Fashion Stakes at in 2010 and this colt looks to have both the pedigree and ability to make up into a decent handicapper as the season progresses.

Azhar (6.45) was a beaten favourite on her racecourse debut last month at Salisbury when floundering on ground softer than ideal but can bounce back in the Fillies’ Maiden Stakes over six furlongs. Godolphin’s well-bred daughter of Exceed and Excel cost 210,000 Guineas at the sales and hails from a smart middle distance family. She is likely to get further in time but sets a decent standard and can shed her maiden tag under James Doyle.

It promises to be a big week for owner Anthony Oppenheimer with his unbeaten colt Golden Horn heading the market as the 15/8 favourite with for The Investec on Saturday. His colours are carried by Si Senor (7.55) this evening and his form figures read 1115 over tonight’s C&D; the selection has just to prove he is as effective on turf as on the all-weather but is a 40/1 shot for the Hunt Cup at the Royal meeting later in the month at BetVictor.

At the handicapper has dropped Mr Moss to an attractive looking mark but he showed little of his old sparkle when tailed off over timber returning from a lengthy break last time; he is best watched unless there is a market move.

Buachaill Alainn (6.20) has run two excellent races on ground softer than ideal of late and he should appreciate this evening’s good ground for Peter and Sean Bowen. The selection can be indolent and a visor replaces the cheek-pieces he has worn of late; he must go close despite being 8lbs higher than gaining an unlikely success at back in March.

Primo Capitano showed he has ability when running well over timber last autumn and the suggestion is he might be best caught fresh; another for whom a check of the market is advised. The vote, however, goes to winning pointer Magheral Express (8.05) whose point success was gained on fast ground and who ran his best race yet when runner up at Chepstow last time from a 4lbs lower mark. He is open to significant improvement.
