Frankie Dettori admits he has taken a big gamble choosing to ride Jazzi Top and not Star Of Seville in the Investec Oaks.
The legendary jockey was offered the chance to ride either horse in Friday‘s showpiece event and it was thought that he might opt for Star Of Seville, who has been in top form.
The classy filly beat Together Forever by a head to claim the Musidora Stakes at York, but Jazzi Top has also been in the winner’s enclosure when claiming the Pretty Polly at Newmarket last month.
It was a tough call for the Italian but he feels that, of the John Gosden-trained stars, Jazzi Top might be better suited to Epsom.
“I am leaning towards Jazzi Top,” he told the Daily Mail. “Both fillies have stamina question marks. I watched the Musidora again and I think Star Of Seville’s stamina just gave in a bit.
“The second (Together Forever) was receiving 4lb so, in theory, off level weights she should beat me at Epsom.
“Star of Seville is also a bit quirky and Jazzi Top’s style of racing will suit Epsom.
“It was a juggling act and I have probably got it completely wrong but that is what I am doing.”
