Eddie Lynam is confident that Sole Power will be ready for his King‘s Stand defence at Royal Ascot, despite struggling at the Curragh.
The eight-year-old could only manage sixth behind Mustajeeb in last Saturday’s Greenland Stakes, leading to questions being raised about whether or not he will be fit enough to win June 16’s five-furlong affair for the third straight year.
However, Lynam insists his charge was just lacking race sharpness on his first appearance in Ireland since 2011 and is in no doubt that he will be able to produce the goods when he lines up at Ascot.
“He came out of the race great, no problem, and will go for the King’s Stand now,” he said. “He needs races, he used to be just a horse you’d mind from himself and didn’t do too much with him, but as he’s got older he can get heavy very easy and he needs those races.
“It was great to give him a run at home, Richard (Hughes) was happy enough with him and hopefully we’re trying to make history in trying to win the King’s Stand for the third time.
“He’s in very good form and we’re keen to go.”
