Trainer Richard Hannon says Tiggy Wiggy could feature in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot after a good run at Newmarket.
The three-year-old bay filly produced a brilliant performance in Suffolk on Sunday to finish third in the Qipco 1000 Guineas Stakes behind winner Legatissimo.
It was a much-improved display from the one witnessed at Newbury in April where Tiggy Wiggy recorded a disappointing third in The Fred Darling Stakes, having been the pre-race favourite.
The Newmarket outing has provided several positives for Hannon though and the trainer has confirmed his charge will be returning to sprinting, with the Commonwealth Cup a possible target.
“I was very proud of Tiggy Wiggy. We were dipping our toes into unknown territory and she came home with her head held high,” he said on www.richardhannonracing.co.uk. “You can’t say that she didn’t stay the mile, but it was only her class which kept her going. We need to make full use of her electric early speed, so it’s back to sprinting.
“The Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot is the obvious target, and there are far more opportunities available in the second half of the season, races like the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, the Nunthorpe, Haydock Sprint Cup and Prix de l’Abbaye. It could be an exciting summer.”
