Robbie McNamara is recovering well from the serious injuries he suffered in a fall at Wexford on Friday and is in “very good spirits”.
The jockey was on board Bursledon when he fell four flights from home in the first division of the Cahore Point Handicap Hurdle.
He underwent a CT scan at Wexford General Hospital where it was discovered he suffered “serious chest, abdominal and spinal injuries”.
McNamara was forced to miss out on partnering 2014 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere in the Crabbie’s Grand National at Aintree as he was moved to the Mater Hospital in Dublin where he underwent surgery on his spine.
However, Dr Adrian McGoldrick, chief medical officer for the Irish Turf Club, has confirmed that he is making a good recovery.
He said: “He was very stable overnight and in very good spirits. He doesn’t want to say any more at this stage and you can understand that.
“It was serious chest, abdominal and spinal injuries. The spinal injuries have been operated on and that’s stabilised.
“The next phase is recuperation and we’ll take it from there.”
