Trainer Gary Moore was pleased with Sire De Grugy after the nine-year-old secured victory at Chepstow on Saturday.
The chestnut gelding beat off competition from the likes of Grey Gold and Mister Grez to secure victory in the Rifles Handicap Chase Supporting Care For Casualties race, with jockey Jamie Moore at the helm.
The nine-year-old has suffered an injury-ravaged campaign so far this season and upon returning to action earlier this month in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury, he looked less than convincing before eventually unseating jockey Jamie Moore.
This made Saturday’s victory even more pleasing for trainer Moore, particularly as he was giving weight all round.
He said: “What more could he have done? Grey Gold wasn’t that far behind Dodging Bullets at Ascot off level weights and we gave him a stone and a half yesterday and beat him beat him easily.”
The Preston Family-owned horse now looks set to compete in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next month in a race he won 12 months ago and Moore believes he has every chance of being victorious again.
He continued: “I’m not interested in the betting (for the Champion Chase). If he gets the run of the race at Cheltenham I think he’ll be there with every chance, I really do.”
