Capri and Crystal Ocean are the leading contenders among 11 declarations for the St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday.
Aidan O’Brien, who has won the world’s oldest Classic race four times, is hoping Capri can land him a fifth title this weekend, although he is likely to have to see off the threat of Sir Michael Stoute‘s Crystal Ocean in Yorkshire.
Those two sit at the top of the antepost market but there are nine other runners, including three more from O’Brien’s stable, Douglas Macarthur, The Anvil and Venice Beach, while his son – Joseph O’Brien – has entered Rekindling.
Four-time St Leger winner John Gosden has interest in Stradivarius and Coronet, while the Roger Varian-trained Defoe, the widespread third favourite, is seen by many as a very able contender.
Raheen House and Count Octave are the others on the list but Abyssinian and Air Supremacy were left out at the final declaration stage.
