Rolling Maul set for Cesarewitch warm-up

Rolling Maul is likely to be given a run-out at in preparation for the Betfred at in October.

Trainer Peter Bowen has been impressed with the nine-year-old following his switch to Flat , with the Bay Gelding making it three out three so far after claiming victories at , Ffos Las and Newmarket.

The Betfred Cesarewitch is the next main target and, in preparation for the two-and-a-quarter-mile handicap on October 14 at Newmarket, Bowen wants to find a warm-up outing, with a trip back to Ffos Las appealing.

Bowen said: “He has done well on the Flat. He has always been a really good work horse, though, and he really tries. We thought we would try him on the Flat and hopefully, with a bit of luck, he will get into the Cesarewitch now.

“We will run him again. I don’t think we will go for the Cesarewitch Trial. We will try to find something easier as I don’t want to give him a hard race before the Cesarewitch. There might be an opportunity to run him round Ffos Las.”

He added: “The Cesarewitch has been on the back of our mind for a while as we tried it a few years ago with Mr Ed and he was only beaten half a length in it. Two and a quarter miles will help him as well.”
