With Huntingdon being called off I am looking ahead to Saturday’s racing. It’s an interesting Saturday and there will be a few nice horses in the winner’s enclosure I’m sure. One horse I am really interested in seeing having backed him for the RSA earlier this week, is FIDDLERONTHEROOF. Colin Tizzard‘s charge has been mixing it with the best over 2 and 2m 4f all of his career but there has been little doubt in my mind that he is actually a three miler in the making and the step up in trip today will bring about plenty of improvement.
His only chase victory this year came at Exeter when it was apparent he needed further as he only got on top on the line but connections persevered with 2m 4f and he has since been beaten twice, albeit not by much. The tiempo of a 3 mile race and Jonjo O’Neill onboard should see a marked improvement and I think he can turn over the jolly.
The Pertemps Qualifier is always a tricky race to get your head around. Your drawn to the classy form horses up the top but they only want to qualify for this race so you can almost disregard them. Horses such as MR HARP at the bottom of the weights are the ones to focus on and I think Thomas Gallagher’s charge has a right chance in this. A very lightly raced horse, showed an aptitude for stern stamina test at Southwell and also Uttoxeter most recently. Conditions at Uttoxeter would have been similar as to what he faces today so you can guarantee he will go on it. He beat Saint Dalina that day who opposes today and I think the pair are both well handicapped but the way Mr Harp quickened away at the back of the last showed he had plenty in hand. An 8lb rise is fair enough but I think he has more to offer here.
