Gordon Elliott is considering sending Samcro over three miles in Leopardstown‘s Savills Chase over the festive period.
Elliott already appears well represented with defending champion Delta Work attempting the double, while last year’s fifth-place finisher, Presenting Percy, is back for more.
Champ, Minella Indo, A Plus Tard, Fakir D’oudairies and Kemboy are also in contention for the Grade 1 feature, and now Elliott, who also won this race in 2016 with Outlander, appears ready to throw Samcro into the mix.
Although it would be a first run at three miles for Samcro, Elliott feels that it is a “good option” for the Marsh Novices’ Chase champion, while he also remains positive on the chances of Delta Work and Presenting Percy.
“It’s quite possible that Samcro could run in the Savills Chase,” said Elliott. “It’d be his first run under rules over three miles, and trying that on what’s likely to be decent ground at Leopardstown could be a good option.
“Delta Work naturally progresses throughout the season and has done so in the past. We were happy with his run at Down Royal and hopefully he’ll come on again from that.
“We were delighted to see Presenting Percy do what he did at Thurles last time. He’s in good form and should come on from that. He probably doesn’t have that much to find to be in the mix.”
