Racing manager John Warren admits Humbolt Current could run in the Qipco 2000 Guineas later this summer.
The Queen is yet to have one of her stable entered into the race but the three-year-old could still compete this season.
Humbolt Current still holds an entry in the Guineas at Newmarket and his only run was back at Yarmouth in October.
Since that race, he has left William Haggas‘ team to join Roger Varian having been bought for 1.9 million guineas but Warren is keeping his feet on the ground for the moment.
He told reporters: “We are not going to go quite as far as saying that (he’s a Guineas horse), but we are mindful. We are mindful that the form might not be top draw. We will try to place him where he can try to win his maiden and I think we might go to Newbury and see where we are after that.
“William has always liked him. In fact he told me he liked them both at Yarmouth. Neither were stoked up to win first time and their class just put them through it really.
“There is a lot to look forward to and I think he could be a very nice, improving horse. He has done very well. The Queen will see her stock in Newmarket in a couple of weeks.”
