Almanzor is expected to return to race action next month although he is unlikely to feature at Royal Ascot.
The four-year-old was one of the star performers in Europe last season, recording five victories on the spin, including successes in the French Derby, the Irish Champion Stakes and the Champion Stakes at Ascot.
The bay colt is yet to run in 2017 and despite holding an entry in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Ascot next month, he instead looks set to make his return to action in the Prix la Coupe at Chantilly on June 17.
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe remains Almanzor’s ultimate goal for the season, with Sylvain Vidal, racing manager for owners Ecurie Antonio Caro, confirming the upcoming programme for the French horse.
“The plan at the moment is to run in the Prix la Coupe at Chantilly on June 17, but I don’t think he’ll be going to Ascot, it will come too soon,” Vidal said. “Later in the year the plan is to step him up to 12 furlongs and aim him at the Arc.”
