Jockey David Bass suffered multiple fractures to his cheekbone in a fall at Ascot on Saturday and faces a spell on the sidellines.
Bass fell at the first on Dueling Banjos in the novice handicap chase, with Royal Milan also going down in the incident.
It had been hoped the jockey’s injuries were superficial but Dueling Banjos’ trainer Kim Bailey has confirmed Bass will be absent for some time.
“David has multiple fractures to his cheekbone, so we won’t see him for a while, poor chap. I haven’t been able to speak to him, but he texted me the news,” Bailey said, as reported by the Racing Post.
“We’ll miss him, and he’ll miss some good rides. I don’t know how long he’ll be out for – he’s waiting to find out if he is to have an operation or not – but he’s going to miss horses like The Last Samuri, who possibly goes to Aintree, and Charbel, who may go to Sandown.”
