Dettori gushing after Journey triumph

Frankie was full of praise for Journey after partnering her to Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes glory at .

The four-year-old was second in the Group One race 12 months ago but returned to the Berkshire track to defeat all-comers this time around.

The daughter of Dubawi had been aimed at the race all season and, under a superb ride from the Italian, was a four-length winner over Speedy Boarding.

Pretty Perfect led by six lengths at one stage before Dettori asked his mount to respond, which she did brilliantly to claim the spoils.

It was the filly’s third consecutive triumph and Dettori could not hide his joy for all concerned.

“She deserved a Group One, she has been running so well,” he said. “I can’t believe the turn of foot she showed today, she picked up like she had roller skates.

“She is a joy to ride and well done to the owners.”

Trainer concurred, adding: “She’s got a mind of her own and is very wilful, extremely talented. She’s a wild little creature.

“I just told Frankie to get her settled as she’ll tell you what she wants to do and you just listen – he rode her beautifully.”
