Henry Candy has confirmed that Limato will run in Saturday’s 32Red Sprint Cup at Haydock rather than last year’s winner Twilight Son.
Limato followed up an impressive victory in the Darley July Cup at Newmarket with a second-place showing at last month’s Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
Trainer Candy is confident the bay gelding has recovered from those exploits and he is hopeful the fair conditions will suit the versatile four-year-old better than defending champion Twilight Son.
“Limato will run, but Twilight Son will not,” said Candy. “I’m expecting just good ground.”
Karl Burke‘s filly Quiet Reflection finished behind Limato in third position at the Darley July Cup and the two horses will renew their rivalry once again on Saturday, while Magical Memory, who finished third in the Sprint Cup 12 months ago, will compete at Haydock for trainer Charlie Hills.
