Magical display from Memory at York

Magical Memory claimed a first Group 2 success with a stylish victory in the Duke Of Stakes at York.

Last season’s Stewards’ Cup winner had made a winning reappearance at last month and was sent off favourite in the hands of .

Goken was out quickly in the 6f contest, while Danzeno was brought towards the stands’ side as he just about led for much of the contest.

Magical Memory was always travelling strongly on the far side of the track and challenged the wandering Danzeno and Suedois at the furlong pole.

‘s mount quickened up smartly to put the race to bed and won a shade cosily by half-a-length from Suedois, with Danzeno in third.

Twilight Son, who had beaten Magical Memory three times last season, stayed on for fifth place after being pushed along at an early stage.

It paid to be drawn low in the Infinity Tyres Stakes over 6f as See The Sun followed up a win at last time by holding off Mythmaker by a neck.

See The Sun, who won over course and distance off a 2lb higher mark two years ago, was always prominent as 50/1 shot Red Pike took the field along.

James Sullivan’s mount found plenty when he hit the front to see off the late challenge of Mythmaker, with Red Pike in third as the first four home came from single-figure stalls.

The bottom weight Nayel was also a willing partner in the opening 888sport Handicap when getting the better of the top weight Pacify.

Tom Marquand was at work at the top of the home straight on Nayel, but ‘s horse stayed on well to beat Pacify by half-a-length, with the keen-running Erik The Red staying on well for the third the same distance back
