Today’s betting tips from Exeter and Sandown with BetVictor

The defection of winner has thrown tomorrow’s Tinkle Creek wide open with Vibrato Valtat the 2/1 favourite at BetVictor with Barry Geraghty riding 3/1 second favourite .

More immediately a valuable card at including an excellent Handicap Chase over very nearly two-and-a-half miles which sees a rematch between last Friday’s 1-2 Rouge Et Blanc and Mon Successeur. The former escapes a penalty for that narrow success and Oliver Sherwood’s charge would be carrying 8lbs more if the race were run 24 hours later; it should be noted that he has won twice in three days in the past including over C&D and is the one to beat.

That said Otago Trail (1.10) looked a natural when going down by half a length to a subsequent winner here on his chase debut and he gave every indication that he would improve for the step up in trip. He faces a tough ask giving weight to his six talented rivals given he is so inexperienced over fences, but he jumped soundly here last month, must go right-handed and is a chaser of some potential.

The Marathon Handicap Chase over the best part of 4miles will take some getting on soft ground and if not getting detached Sybarite would have a leading chance but he is a moody old so and so and has never looked a natural over fences.

Woodford County (1.40) finished third in the Eider and Midlands last season and he could never get competitive after an early mistake on his reappearance at Sedgefield. Leading conditional Ciaran Gethings take off a valuable 7lbs and he can reward each way support in a competitive contest.

There were a few burnt fingers when Golden Doyen was beaten at last time and it will be interesting to see if attempt to recoup losses in the valuable novices’ chase.  Conditional jockey Lizzie Kelly cannot claim her 5lbs but I’m looking forward to the chase debut of Tea For Two (3.20) and feel this trip on soft ground will suit on his chase debut.

An interesting Handicap Chase over the minimum trip at Sandown and the inform pair of De Faoithesdream and Artifice Sivola both like to lead and could cut each other’s throat which is a concern. Both would have more weight to carry from the weekend and a chance is taken on Tresor De Bontee (1.30) who should strip fitter after a recent pipe-opener at Lingfield and who represents the yard of Kerry Lee who has her string in good form.

Winning point-to-pointer Cloudy Beach (2.05) has his first start over fences for Venetia Williams and has not been seen out for 385 days but he could be very well handicapped for the switch to the larger obstacles. The yard were in cracking form in November but, at the time of writing, have only had one winner from their last fifteen runners; that said they remain in form.

In the Amateur Riders’ Handicap Chase Umberto D’Olivate is interesting after a good reappearance at Exeter but the booking of a certain Katie Walsh would suggest connections of Conas Taoi (3.10) think their 6-year-old, who has won four of his last five, might be up to this rise in class especially carrying just 10st 3lbs on ground that is likely to be soft come post time with rain forecast.
