Malcolm Jefferson has revealed Oscar Rock is likely to feature in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on November 14.
The seven-year-old landed a brilliant victory at Market Rasen last time out when beating Claret Cloak by three-and-a-half lengths in the Racing FX Prelude Chase.
Impressive wins at Newcastle and Kelso have also been witnessed this year and Jefferson admits the Gold Cup at Prestbury Park is an option for his charge.
The trainer said: “He’s come out of the race grand. All being well he’ll go to the Paddy Power. If he runs, he’ll go there straight there.”
Jefferson has also revealed Cyrus Darius could travel to Market Rasen on Saturday week to give the exciting prospect more experience after a recent run at Perth.
The six-year-old gelding was less than convincing when narrowly defeating Shadow Catcher by a neck when sent off heavy favourite on his debut over fences, and running in a smaller race is now on the cards.
“He won first time up at Perth and, all being well, he goes to Market Rasen,” the trainer added. “I thought we’d run him in another novice and that would do him good before we think of throwing him in at the deep end.”
