Cosgrave: Stars tailor-made for St Leger

Pat Cosgrave believes is ‘tailor-made’ for the following his win in the Great Voltigeur Stakes.

The son of Sea The Stars has enjoyed a busy campaign and gained a deserved first Group success at York when beating Bondi Beach by half-a-length, with a stewards’ inquiry required before the result was confirmed.


Storm The Stars will now be prepared for the St Leger at next month in his bid to win a after being placed in both the Epsom and Irish Derbies already this season


“He looks tailor-made for it, trip-wise,” Cosgrave told UK of the St Leger. “There’s a perfect time between now and then, and he looks a real Leger horse to me.


“It’s just under four weeks away and I won’t get too excited, but it’s something to look forward to and keep us going for the next few weeks.

“He’s a Group 2 winner now and has been placed in two Derbies, so hopefully he’ll go on and get a Classic for himself now.”

As a juvenile, Storm The Stars was runner-up to Aloft and in two starts and he was only fifth on his reappearance at before winning a Maiden at Leicester.

He was then second in the Vase before putting himself firmly in the Derby picture by winning the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood.


Storm The Stars finished a creditable third at Epsom and was then second to Jack Hobbs at the before a slightly disappointing third place in the Grand Prix de Paris.


However, the William Haggas-trained colt proved he was back to his best in the Voltigeur as he confirmed his status as the ante-post favourite for the St Leger.
