Like every year we have to wait around 3 months for the final English Classic – the St Leger – but this gap between the five races does at least give these 3 year-olds the opportunity to race in the King George against the older horses in July, or at least strengthen-up a bit more before tackling this longer 1m6f trip in September.

Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot kicks off with the Norfolk Stakes over 5f for juveniles and Aidan O’Brien has not saddled the winner of the race since Johannesburg back in 2001 but I think he will put that right courtesy of the unbeaten The Great War (2.30).
