An interesting day of National Hunt racing across three cards awaits today. There are plenty of nice horses at Newbury but not many betting propositions in my view so I’m focusing on Ludlow. In the opener I think today could be the day that FRONT VIEW bounces back to somewhere near his best. His mark has been sliding since joining the Jonjo O’Neill yard and I suspect he may have been laid out for a race of this nature with young Anthony O’Neill on board. The rider looks one of the more experienced jockeys in this race and that could count for a lot late on and it’s also worth noting his shrewd trainer targeted this race last year with Locks Corner who had a similar profile going into the race.
A great big ‘P’ will hopefully put a few punters off CONCETTO today but the switch back to a right handed track should see him in a completely different light. He was a progressive type last season who racked up a couple of victories before bumping into the impressive Latitude over course and distance here. He then found the marathon trip at Perth too much but returned this season with a terrible jumping performance last week at Chepstow. I’m hoping the switch back to Ludlow will see him capitalise on what I think is a lenient handicap mark.
Ludlow 12.15 – Front View
Ludlow 3.45 – Concetto
