Newmarket racecourse on a bustling race day, and Gay Kelleway has been chatting to Robert Havlin and other jockeys in the parade ring about why women are increasingly being given their chance to race-ride. You suggest to the professional jockey-turned long-time trainer that she’d love to turn back the clock and join them. She smiles in agreement. “I wish I was riding now, but was in in my twenties. Gosh. The sky’s the limit,” she says before adding: “Champion jockey?”
