I was very keen on CORMIER last week at York and it was unfortunate he had to miss out late on. It looks an easier assignment for him at Hamilton tonight albeit it remains a competitive handicap and I think the 10/1 on offer last night was more than generous. Ground and trip shouldn’t be an issue and I’m looking forward to seeing how he gets on.
Hamilton 6.53 – Cormier
Saturday
There was much that caught my eye tomorrow and it will be a quiet day for me punting wise I think.
I thought VADREAM was interesting on her return from a small break now encountering a softer surface for the first time this season. Charlie Fellowes’ filly improved throughout the season last year but has returned this year and found life a little more difficult albeit on a firmer surface. It looks like connections are planning a Autumn campaign and I hope she is fit enough to do herself justice here today.
One horse who is definitely fit is ESCOBAR and he looks a value bet in the 3.35 at Goodwood. A really likeable horse he falls between a rock and a hard place as he is probably lurking somewhere between a Group 3 horse and a handicapper. This is a Group 2 tomorrow but a very weak one at that and the fact he is in good form he might just put his more exposed rivals to the sword.
Newmarket 3.15 – Vadream
Goodwood 3.35 – Escobar
