It’s the first day of the Glorious Goodwood festival and it’s one of the better days of the week with regards quality espeically the highly awaited clash in the Goodwood Cup. I’ll be taking a watching brief in that race but will be getting involved in the opening race.
Saeed Bin Suroor’s BRILLIANT LIGHT has been performing well of late, making his presence felt in some top quality handicaps. He’s been shaping as if a step up in trip will suit better than the 10 furlongs he tackles today but from a handy draw I’m hoping Danny Tudhope makes plenty of use of him.
If he can dictate a good gallop I hope he could be the one to beat.
Later on the card, the Lennox stakes looks a race to savour and I’m keen to take on the favourite even though I think she is a high quality filly. She ran a blinder at Ascot over 6f but that was her first run off a break and I’m concerned the bounce factor may hit so at 2/1 she is a lay for me.
Last year’s winner, KINROSS, however looks a really solid bet now returning to his optimum trip. He’s had a couple of runs this season already so his fitness should be guaranteed and he just looks a really solid alternative to the favourite. He may prefer it slightly softer but it shouldn’t inconvenience him running on this better ground.
